It’s not a bad story to tell; it’s just bad storytelling

During our first class we watched Work of Art, a show that Carrie Bradshaw Sarah Jessica Parker produces. It’s a reality show in which young artists compete for the title The Next Great Artist or, as I like to think of it, America’s Next Top Model for the art world. Both shows follow the same basic formula by putting young, good-looking, overdramatic twenty-ish year-olds in stressful situations while giving them the chance to win a sweet prize package and 15 minutes of fame. You just know that the winner will fall into that’s-so-last-season obscurity post-show, but that’s not the point. It’s oddly addictive and you develop an affinity for certain contestants. Hence my sometimes questionable addiction to ANTM.

I’m taking a pop culture writing class with Lynn Crosbie and she suggested we all start a Tumblr to post ideas, influences and random stuff we find that inspires us. Kind of like a journal or sketchbook for writers.

So here I am. Let’s see what awesomeness I can find.
